Drive Shaft Coupling - Tips for Replacing a Pin

To drive a wrench, a drive shaft is fitted between the hands. This is a long cylindrical shaft that is usually encased in an end cap, thus allowing it to rotate freely. The drive shaft is connected to the wheel by a set of pins that make it easier for you to drive your hands.

However, if the shaft goes out of alignment, your efforts may not be as fruitful as they could be. This is because the threads on both the shaft and the wheel are different. If one is out of place, it will be very difficult to get your hands on the nut to tighten. What you need to do is to replace the pins in the drive shaft with a special tool that will help you unscrew the pins easily.

There are two types of pins that are used in a drive shaft: those that are located inside the end cap and those that are found on the outer surface. If you don't know how to replace the pins, ask someone that does. It is recommended that you use a small Allen key for this. You can also use pliers for doing this.

For making a drive shaft coupling, you need a good sized ratchet wrench, the largest size wrench you have. You also need a pair of pliers or fingers, depending on which type of coupling you need. Take note that there are many kinds of ratchets out there.

If you want to make a ratchet that will lock the pin into place, it is recommended that you use a small claw pliers, for example. Also, it is important that you have a large-diameter ratchet wrench. A smaller one will just prevent you from getting tight enough.

Put the drive shaft into the ratchet and turn it until you get the nut to lock the pin. Then, twist the pins until they snap into place.

Then, you can close the nut as tightly as you can. Try to do this again if the nut is still loose. With a pair of pliers, tighten the nut until it is in the proper position and you have successfully changed the drive shaft.
