How To Remove The Front Drive Shaft From Your Transmission

The front wheel drive transmission shafts are the most important components for your vehicle.the front drive shaft Because they transfer torque from the rear wheel to your front wheel, they are the most vulnerable component of the transmission assembly. The front drive axle connects the engine to the transmission, and is held in place with tie rods and transfer cases.

Remove the front of your vehicle with a jack, raise it up with a jack stand and support it by jack stands placed underneath the back wheel axle.the front drive shaft Turn the screw that is inside the transmission tunnel counter clockwise, making sure it isn't too far out or else it will come out when you remove it. Release the rubber strap between the back drive shaft and transfer case, then remove the screw.

Remove the mounting bolts that secure the rear wheel drive axle to the transmission. Make sure you have the right size bolt to remove them with. After you've removed the bolts, you can remove the drive axle from the rear of the transmission. Remove all the hardware and then check your jack for the appropriate type of bolt to be used.

Now take off the nuts and screws that connect the rear wheel drive to the rear transmission, using your hand to turn them clockwise. Slide the screw to the side of the transmission tunnel and free it.

Take off the screws holding the transmission tunnel to the body of your car. You'll have to use some sort of tool to reach under your car. Then remove the nuts that are holding the transmission tunnel to the body and disconnect the connection that holds the transmission tunnel to the body.

Put everything back where it belongs back inside the transmission tunnel and reinstall it. Use the nut wrench. Lubricate everything to make sure everything works as smooth as possible. If it doesn't, run a bead of oil over the entire transmission assembly.

Check to make sure everything is running correctly and that nothing has damaged the assembly. Replace any damaged parts, if there are any, but remember to replace only the front drive axles.

Reinstall the front drive shaft in the proper way. If you get any problems, don't hesitate to contact your local auto shop or mechanic. They will either be able to help you with a repair or tell you how to complete a front drive shaft replacement yourself. They can also provide you with instructions on how to remove the rear drive shaft to access it from underneath your car.

When you have everything installed, take it for a test drive. To increase the life of the transmission, run it regularly in different conditions until the assembly is working smoothly. After a week or two, check the transmission again to make sure it is still running properly.
